Focus on Fitness

Do you find yourself trying so hard to get something right that you become tense and frustrated with yourself? You may be so desperate to lose weight/ get fitter/ be better, for example, that you lose sight of being self-aware and doing what is best for you.

Focusing on the here and now, being present ‘in the moment’ calms the mind and relaxes the body. Exercise is not just about pushing yourself to your limits mentally and physically: it also needs to fulfill the ‘feel-good factor’ for you. Exercise should be a balance of aerobic work, stretching, balance, movement, breathing techniques, and enjoyment.

How do I Focus on Fitness?

We will work on slow movements, focusing the mind on each one. Movements are based on tai chi and yoga, stretching and breathing, bringing a peace to working with your body rather than forcing it to do what is unnatural. Improving your posture is a key element to well-being. Focusing on yourself is about enjoying the moment and to see yourself in a kind and positive way, learning techniques that can be used for a short time each day to introduce calmness into your life, reducing the body’s signs os stress such as high blood pressure, feelings of panic, shortness of breathe and so on.

What happens in a session?

You will be standing/sitting on a chair or lying on a mat- whichever you prefer. We will check your posture and focus on your breath to start with to calm your mind- and to slow down a ‘busy’ brain. We will work through the body releasing tension, aiming for a deep sense of peace and relaxation. We will spend some time on relaxing each part of the body in turn, focusing on breathing techniques. We will progress gradually through simple movements to calming music aiming to create balance between mind and body.

Reiki for Animals

Reiki for Animals

I have always had a close affinity with all animals, especially horses, for as long as I can remember, but only recently have I had the courage to acknowledge that I have inherited this skill, which has led me along this path, helping others.

Reiki for your horse

IMG_0349

Your horse must feel at ease and in their normal surroundings and routine as much as possible in order to get the most from the treatment. A session will leave them feeling very relaxed and some horses take a nap soon after as part of the healing process.

A Reiki session can be anything up to an hour as the horse dictates when he/she has had enough by moving away. Some horses, like some people, take up and use the healing energy a lot more effectively than others.

Reiki Energy

Reiki can help to:

  • Reduce anxiety
  • Promote self-healing
  • Balance mind, body and soul
  • Promote relaxation
  • Reduce behavioural problems
  • Release blocked energy

Reiki for your pet

Reiki sammy 2

Your pet is best treated in familiar surroundings to aid relaxation. Reiki healing is a gentle contact with the animal with my hands, or I can work in close proximity. Most animals enjoy Reiki and will approach for this gentle touch when they are ready. Your pet may be quite sleepy afterwards and might want to rest quietly.

Animals instinctively know how much healing they need and will generally move away when they have had enough. Some animals choose to stay a short distance away but they will still receive the healing energy the same.

Reiki is not a substitute for veterinary treatment. If your animal is  under veterinary care you must obtain their permission for Reiki treatment to be given and they may even want to be present.

The Veterinary Surgery Act of 1966 prohibits anyone, other than a qualified veterinary surgeon from treating animals, including diagnosis of ailments and giving advice on such diagnosis. However the healing of animals by contact healing, by laying of hands or distant healing is legal. The Protection of Animals Act 1911 requires that if an animal clearly needs treatment from a veterinary surgeon the owner must obtain this. To give emergency First Aid to animals for the purpose of saving life or relieving pain is permissible under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 Schedule 3. Reiki for You

You will be fully clothed lying on a couch or sitting on a chair. I will place my hands just above or lightly touch, different areas of you body, concentrating on where the energy is most needed.  During this treatment, you may feel heat, coolness, tingling, or just a deep sense of peace and relaxation. During a treatment, I will channel this energy through my hands and use it to rebalance the chakras, or centres of energy.

Reiki can help to:

  • Reduce anxiety
  • Balance mind, body and soul
  • Release blocked emotion
  • Promote self-healing
  • Enhance personal awareness

During your session, you can choose to listen to soothing music, have some quiet time just for you, or we can chat during your session- whichever you prefer. There is some time after your treatment to talk about your process.

As a counselling student, in my fourth level of training, I can give you time to talk if it helps you and `I am happy to be a ‘listening ear’.

Anything you say is confidential, unless I am legally required to disclose information. You may wish to seek further professional help, in which case we can plan the best way forwards for you.

Meditation-Mindfulness

What is meditation?

Meditation is about bringing your attention to the present moment- your thoughts and feelings, and the world around you. This often called ‘mindfulness’. It helps you to recognise your own thoughts and anxiety , and enables you to deal with adverse feelings earlier, building self-confidence and self-esteem, and ability to cope with stressful situations. Meditation is about enjoying the moment and to see yourself in a kind and positive way. Learning techniques that can be used for a short time each day can help to introduce calmness into your life, reducing the body’s signs os stress such as high blood pressure, feelings of panic, shortness of breathe and so on. Meditation promotes a holistic feeling of well-being for both mind and body.

We will work through the body releasing tension, aiming for a deep sense of peace and relaxation. We will spend some time on relaxing each part of the body in turn, focusing on breathing techniques, being mindful of your own awareness. You will be guided through a mediation scene, such as walking through a garden to help you to mentally relax and to bring about a sense of calm, like a daydream. We all have a special place to remember where we felt happy and relaxed.

Meditation can help to:

  • Reduce anxiety
  • Balance mind, body and soul
  • Promote self-healing

Stressful situations such as a visit to the dentist, sitting in traffic jams etc can be managed in a calmer way with meditation techniques, enabling you to keep your cool when under pressure! Performance anxiety, such as making a speech or taking part in a competition can be significantly reduced with meditative techniques.

I run a meditation group as well as individual sessions of reiki/meditation/relaxation.

As a counselling and psychotherapy student in my last year of study, I can support you on your own self-discovery.

What is Reiki?

There is an ancient belief in traditional Chinese Medicine that all physical bodies have a life force or “chi” that flows around us along energy paths called meridians, with centres of energy at various points called chakras.

For the body to heal itself, it needs to be in balance. Reiki puts positive energy into the body. Each energy point, or chakra, is responsible for certain body areas of the body and can also be linked to certain emotions. Sometimes, due to emotional upset or physical trauma, chakras become blocked or sluggish and the flow of energy cannot get through.

Reiki ( Universal life force energy) is an ancient technique, re-discovered by Dr Mikao Usui a Japanese theologian, in the 19th century. It is used to provide that extra boost for the body, promoting the flow of energy helping the body heal itself naturally.

During a treatment, I will channel this energy through my hands and use it to rebalance the chakras, or centres of energy.

I am a member of the Reiki Foundation and I also use counselling skills to back up my work as a Reiki practitioner.
